Lead Pastor

Jackie Hill

Jackie was born in Memphis, Tennessee and lived there until he was 17 years old when his family moved to Collierville, TN.  After he graduated high school his family moved into rural West Tennessee.  Iowa was his home for 2.5 years before he moved to Roseville, MN where he lives now with his wife Carina and their children Noah, Leah, Makaiah and Pom-a-Poo Samson.

As Lead Pastor Jackie oversees all the ministries at Roseville Baptist Church but most of his time is spent studying, praying, preaching, discipling and developing leaders.  The 1st through 5th grade boys get a lot of his attention on Wednesday nights during his co-leadership of Royal Ambassadors, which he describes as "an absolute blast."

The love God put in Jackie's heart, and his love for God were huge factors in his surrender to ministry.  Ultimately Jackie felt so drawn to ministry that he couldn't see himself being happy or content unless he gave his life fully to God in service to the church.  He loves serving God's church as a pastor and is so grateful that by God's infinite sovereignty and grace, He called him and equipped Jackie to be a pastor.   It is a great blessing for Jackie to pastor the flock at RBC.

When asked what does Jackie pray for the people of RBC he said "Lots of things.  Praying is one of the primary functions of a pastor.  The things I pray for the church most often are that we will love God fully and faithfully, that we will love others the way He loves us, and that we will live for God and others and not for ourselves."

Student Pastor

Derek Ambroson

Originally from Newton, IA, Derek moved up to Roseville, MN in 2012 to attend the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and has been here ever since.  Derek is the Student Pastor, meaning he oversees all ministry functions involving kids from 6th grade to college.  He specifically works within the youth ministry on a weekly basis.

Initially,  Derek didn't want to be in ministry.  He was more interested in working in sports recruiting.  After a lot of biblical discipleship and an increased study of God's Word, he felt God calling him to take over the student ministry at RBC.  As he read into God's Word more, he felt Psalm 37:4 really speaking to him, which says, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."  Derek felt that God was changing his heart during this time from something he didn't want to do to something he couldn't stay away from.  Praise the Lord for that!

Derek (or DA as the youth refer to him as) prays that the people, specifically the youth, will open their hearts to hear from God.  He prays that the students will ask tough questions, challenge ideas, and come to a knowledge of Jesus because THEY want to, not just because he or their parents tell them it's best for them.  Few things bring him greater joy than seeing a student I've prayed for understand the sacrifice Jesus made for them and how that can give them eternal hope in a dark world.

Derek and his wonderful wife Alexxis (who also helps with the Youth Ministry) have been married since August 2016.  They are currently expecting their first baby (girl) who is due at the end of February and they couldn't be more excited about it!

Worship Pastor

Joel Koopman

Joel was born in Estherville Iowa, he moved to Forest City Iowa before high school, and then moved to the Twin Cities in 2002.  Currently, he is the Worship Pastor, coffee and bulletin maker, and soon to be Small group facilitator.

He got into ministry because God brought people into his life to ask him questions that he wouldn't ask himself.  Ministry came about through areas of church that weren't being filled, and God laid it on his heart to do them.

Joel's prayer for the people of RBC is "that we would listen to God's call for all of us, and follow wherever He leads us to serve.  I long for natural and passionate worship in every area of our lives.  Worship is a natural overflow of what God does for us, and most of us just don't treat it like that."

Joel & his wife Jenny of almost 10 years have 3 kids, Bradley, Cora & Dex.  They live in New Brighton, MN.  Opening their home to others for times of fellowship, fun and laughter is their favorite.

Missions Pastor

Mike Blahnik

Mike was born and raised in the upper peninsula of Michigan.  As an adult, he lived in Utah for about 10 years before moving to Minnesota in 2012.  Mike and his wife Hannah were married in 2017 and are expecting their first child in 2019.  As the Missions Pastor Mike focuses on connecting our congregation with various mission opportunities. He also teaches the Men's Sunday School class and engage in individual discipleship with other men in our congregation.

God has called Mike to evangelism and discipleship. He has put a passion in his heart to help people to take the next step either into faith in Jesus Christ or to walk closer with Jesus.  In Mike's prayers for the people of RBC he prayers that they would be progressively walking closer with God and reaching out to others for His glory.

Worship & College Pastor

Drew Stravers

Drew was born in Pella, IA and lived there until he was 18 years old. Then he moved to Roseville, MN to attend University of Northwestern , St Paul and has lived in various places in the Twin Cities ever since.  Initially, Drew got into ministry because he loved playing music with a band, but ministry means much more to him now. He loves fellowship with other believers and growing together in the Word. Seeing how the Lord works through discipleship within our church is one of Drew's favorite things.

Drew mainly works within two ministries. First, he leads the young adult ministry. They meet every Wednesday night to worship together, study the Word, and share prayer requests. He helps plan and lead events within this ministry. Secondly, he assists Pastor Joel with leading the worship ministry, and am transitioning into role as the Worship Pastor.

Drew's prayer for the people of RBC is "that we will be discipled, and that we will make disciples in the way Jesus called us to."

Associate Pastor

Mark Lorenz

Mark is from St. Paul, MN where he and his wife Valerie and two children Preston & Teagan live.  The areas of ministry he works within at RBC are chaplaincy in the workplace, visitation, and families.

Mark prays for the people of RBC to fully trust in The Lord. Trust in His provision, trust in His plan, and live in His peace.

Hispanic Ministry Pastor

Xul Perez

Xul was born and grew up in Mexico. After finishing his Bachelor in Theology from a Bible institute in Mexico, he moved to Pensacola, Florida to pursue more biblical and musical training. After finishing a couple of master's degrees he moved back to Mexico. 5 years later, he moved to Greenville, SC to pursue further biblical training. It was there that he met his wife Katy. Later on, in the Fall of 2009 they moved to the Twin Cities.

Xul is the pastor of our Spanish speaking congregation.  He saw the need and opportunity to start a Spanish speaking congregation and he felt that the Lord was guiding him to do that under the umbrella of RBC.

In his prayers Xul prays that we may walk in close communion with our Heavenly Father, that we may continue to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that the Lord may use us to be a light and bring the gospel to others.

Xul and his wife Katy have been married since December 20th of 2008.
